Suppression of the TeV Pair-beam–Plasma Instability by a Tangled Weak Intergalactic Magnetic Field

چکیده
Abstract We study the effect of a tangled sub-fG level intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF) on electrostatic instability blazar-induced pair beam. Sufficiently strong IGMF may significantly deflect TeV beams, which would reduce flux secondary cascade emission below observational limits. A similar reduction result from beam–plasma instability, operates best in absence IGMF. Considering with correlation lengths smaller than kiloparsec, we find that weak fields increase transverse momentum pair-beam particles, dramatically reduces linear growth rate and hence energy-loss show is eliminated as an effective agent at strength three orders magnitude needed to suppress by deflection. For intermediate-strength IGMF, do not know viable process explain observed GeV-scale emission.

Probing Intergalactic Magnetic Fields in the Glast Era through Pair Echo Emission from Tev Blazars
More than a dozen blazars are known to be emitters of multi-TeV gamma rays, often with strong and rapid flaring activity. By interacting with photons of the cosmic microwave and infrared backgrounds, these gamma rays inevitably produce electron-positron pairs, which in turn radiate secondary inverse Compton gamma rays in the GeV-TeV range with a characteristic time delay that depends on the pro...
متن کاملPair production in a strong magnetic field: the effect of a weak background gravitational field
The production probability of an e− − e+ pair in the presence of a strong, uniform and slowly varying magnetic field is calculated by taking into account the presence of a background gravitational field. The curvature of the spacetime metric induced by the gravitational field not only changes the transition probabilities calculated in the Minkowski spacetime but also primes transitions that are...
متن کاملGev Emission from Tev Blazars and Intergalactic Magnetic Fields
Several high-frequency peaked BL Lac objects such as Mrk 501 are strong TeV emitters. However, a significant fraction of the TeV gamma rays emitted are likely to be absorbed in interactions with the diffuse IR background, yielding electron-positron pairs. Hence, the observed TeV spectrum must be steeper than the intrinsic one. Using the recently derived intrinsic γ-ray spectrum of Mrk 501 durin...

15 صفحه اولPair creation by a photon in a strong magnetic field
The process of pair creation by a photon in a strong magnetic field is investigated basing on the polarization operator in the field. The total probability of the process is found in a relatively simple form. The probability exhibits a ”saw-tooth” pattern because of divergences arising when the electron and positron are created at threshold of the Landau energy levels. The pattern will be washe...
